Piano Gear

These are things I use every day and recommend to my students.

I also list a couple of “fun” items that I have been gifted or that my students have shown me.

Check back often as I continue to update this list!

AirTurn Bluetooth Pedal Page Turner

This is the bluetooth pedal I use to turn pages when I read music on my iPad.

Firefly Bluetooth Pedal

This is a bluetooth pedal that can be used to turn pages when reading music from an iPad. I don’t own one (because I already own the AirTurn) but I have used one and it works great. Many of my music colleagues and some of my students use this pedal and report having good experiences with it.

“The Piano Lesson” 1000-piece puzzle

This beautiful and challenging puzzle makes a great gift for a piano-lover who also likes to work puzzles!

“Lego” Grand Piano

An amazing model of a grand piano you can build out of Legos! It comes as a complete kit you can assemble, and the piano actually has working parts.

Seiko Quartz Metronome

My favorite metronome. I use it most days.

Dr. Beat Portable Metronome

This is a very powerful metronome, capable of producing polyrhythms and a variety of sounds. It can also be plugged into speakers, making it useful as a metronome in an ensemble setting.

Paperlike Screen Protector

I use the Paperlike screen protector on my iPad, and it makes writing on the iPad feel like I’m writing on paper. I write on the iPad all the time – it would be a much worse experience without this screen protector, because it keeps my pencil from slipping all over the place!

Apple Pencil 2nd Generation

This is the Apple Pencil I use to annotate my scores when I read music on my iPad.

ForScore App

This is the music reading app that I use with my iPad. I use it in combination with my bluetooth pedal. You can download it to your tablet from the App Store (Apple products) or the Google Play Store (Android products).

iPad case

A friend had the version of this case with Van Gogh’s Almond Blossoms, and I got a floral one. What I like about it is the attractive colors, and it has a pocket where I can slip papers or cards into. It is also light weight and not bulky. I can fold it and it works as a stand for my iPad. It has held up well for several years.

Techmatte iPad Stand

I use this stand when I perform on stage with my iPad. It allows me to take the music desk out of the piano. I set the iPad in the stand, which I put in front of the pins on the piano. It allows me to hear and see better, and makes the iPad less intrusive during the performance.

Practice journal

I recently upgraded to this journal. It comes in a rainbow of colors, the paper is high quality, there is a choice between lined, blank, or dotted, and it’s reasonably priced. I am a fan!

Hidrau Hydraulic Piano Bench

This is the piano bench that I have in my teaching studio. I really like the fact that it is hydraulic and can be easily raised and lowered, like an office chair, and you don’t have to crank it up and down like some other piano benches.

Apple iPad Pro, 12.9-inch

This is the iPad I use as a tablet to read music. Most of my music collection is on my iPad. It is a game changer to be able to take my entire music library with me in digital form.

Blue Snowball USB Condenser/Cardoid Microphone

This is the mic I recommend for online lessons. I use it myself when I teach online, and I also use it when I teach in person and record my students’ lessons for them.

There are two versions of the Snowball mic that look the same. This one has better sound quality for musicians.
